Mobile Irrigation Lab

* The MIL will not be operating until further notice due to funding deficiencies.  Check with us again for MIL updates.

WHAT IS THE BROWARD MOBILE IRRIGATION LABORATORY?

The Broward County Mobile Irrigation Laboratory (Broward County MIL) is a FREE public service operated by the Broward Soil and Water Conservation District. The Broward County MIL Team schedules appointments and makes on-site visits to evaluate irrigation systems. The evaluation focuses on turf areas and landscaped beds.

WHO CAN USE THE SERVICES OF THE MIL?

The Broward County MIL can evaluate any property in Broward County less than 10 acres in size, including single family residences, condominiums, homeowners associations, businesses, parks and schools.

WHY CALL ON THE BROWARD MIL FOR AN EVALUATION?

SAVE MONEY - Why waste money on municipal water or pump operation when the water is being wasted on plants that really don't need all that water. You might be surprised at how some simple adjustments that the Broward MIL may recommend could put extra dollars in your pocket.

SAVE WATER - Our water supply remains constant as our population continues to grow here in South Florida. It is essential to conserve water not only for use by this increasing population but for our fragile ecosystems.  The Broward MIL evaluation will help you take steps to conserve water.

IMPROVE YOUR TURF AND LANDSCAPED BEDS - By watering with the wrong amounts of water at the wrong times, you may be damaging your turf grass and landscape plants. Your plants would thank you and look healthier after a few adjustments recommended by the Broward MIL.

HOW DO I GET AN MIL EVALUATION?

To schedule an appointment with the Broward County MIL, simply call the Broward Soil and Water Conservation District at (954) 584-1306, Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Before the Broward County MIL Team arrives, check your irrigation system for any obvious problems, such as broken sprinkler heads or irrigation lines. Correcting the obvious problems ahead of time will make the evaluation more meaningful.

The Broward County MIL Team will spend up to three hours on your property; you need not be present during the evaluation as long as your irrigation control box is accessible to the Broward County MIL Team. The Team will operate your control box to observe each irrigation zone during the evaluation.

You will receive a written report from the Broward County MIL Team. The report will summarize the information collected, suggest improvements for the irrigation system and make recommendations for the operation of the system. Best of all - This is a FREE public service!
